

Bank of Scotland Championships, Grangemouth - 23&24/08/08

The Scottish championships bring the best athletes that Scotland has to offer together every year. The standard of the athletes at this year competition was very high compared to last year. There were three athletes representing Caithness this year at the competition and each one of them competed to the highest of their abilities and the results did not disappoint.
The youngest athlete was Shannon Eyers who is in the Under 13 Girls. Shannon competed in the 70m hurdles event in the 2nd heat; she ran a time of 13.71s and came 6th in her heat. She also competed in the Javelin event and threw a new personal best of 26.87m which gained her a bronze. As well as the Hurdles and Discus Shannon competed in Discus and with a new personal best of 20.05m she finished 4th just out of the medals.
Natasha Morris was the second of the Caithness athletes to compete. Natasha competed in three throwing events for the Under 15 Girls. Discus was the first event Natasha competed in, she threw a distance of 25.40m which put her into 5th place. Then she competed in the Javelin, she finished in 6th place with a new personal best of 22.43m. Lastly she competed in the Shot Putt event and with a distance of 9.05m which is close to her personal best she finished in 5th place.
In the Under 17 Men age group Sam O'Kane was not to be out done by Shannon and Natasha. With a distance of 37.34m Sam won the Discus event. He also competed in the Shot Putt event and finished 6th with a throw of 10.78m. 37.28m was the distance he threw in the Hammer event which allowed him to finish in 7th place. Sam lastly competed in the High Jump competition and finished 7th by jumping a height of 1.71m.
The success of these three athletes will carry momentum into the last few competitions of the Track and Field session.
