East District Cross Country Relay - 10/10/2009

In sunny conditions, Emma and Oonagh Dunnett were competing in their first cross country race for Edinburgh AC. Due to illness which left them without an Under 13 runner, Oonagh's team was incomplete but she still ran a commendable 12.47min even after being hampered by a stitch for most of the 2.5k course.

Emma, who had been placed in the Edinburgh 'B' girls team, took over her leg of the race in 5th place some 40seconds from the 3rd and 4th placed runners. Not to be put off she caught and passed the 4th placed runner within the first 800m and then closed the gap on the 3rd placed runner, handing over to her Under 17 team mate with only a 4 second gap left to make up.

In doing so Emma recorded the fastest time of all of the Under 15 runners in 10.04min and was only beaten by two Under 17 runners' times. The Edinburgh 'B' team came home to take silver place in the East District Championships and Emma collected her first East District medal along with team mates Hannah Cameron and Louisa Stewart.
