Celtic International games, Athlone, Ireland - 08/08/10
Halkirk youngster Shannon Eyers was selected to represent Scotland in the U16 Javelin event at the Celtic International games in Athlone, Ireland. The Thurso High school pupil managed to throw a distance of 26.65m against a strong wind, gaining a podium place at her first international event.

The Scottish team came second overall, just behind the competitors from Athletics Ireland at the one day event.
Fourteen year old Shannon, a member of Caithness Amateur Athletic Club, does well in most track and field events, although she is currently concentrating on Javelin - her favourite.
She has won Gold medals in the discipline this year in the Grampian Regional Championships in Inverness and the Scottish National Closed Championships in Wishaw, and she is currently ranked number one in Scotland for her age-group.

Her personal best is a throw of 28.84m which she achieved in Inverness on July 25th.
Shannon has been a member of CAAC since she was 9 years old and is coached by Malcolm Clasper, who has given up a lot of his spare time to make sure the youngster does well.
