Scottish Young Athletes League (SYAL) Round 1, Dundee - 02/05/10

An early start and a 500 mile round trip was the order of the day for 12 CAAC Athletes on the 2nd May.

18 athletes from Caithness were selected as part of a Highlands and Islands team with 12 travelling to compete in the Scottish Young Athletes League, their valuable contribution helped the team to 2nd place overall.

Stephanie Eyers, Lucy McIntosh and Gabrielle MacGregor were selected for the U11G. Competing in the shot Putt, Stephanie came 2nd in the 'A' string with a throw of 4.41m and Lucy came 1st in the 'B' string with a throw of 4.32m.

Gabrielle competed in the 800m and came 3rd in the 'B' string. Stephanie and Gabrielle also took part in the 4x100m relay race, coming 1st place.

Rhiannon Kirk was selected for the U13G Long Jump. In a strong field of jumpers, she performed well to place 7th in the 'B' string with a jump of 2.70m.

Sarah Henderson was selected for the U15G 800m race. She achieved a new PB, coming in 1st place in the 'A' string with a time of 2m32s. She also helped the team in the 4x100m relay race to come 2nd with a time of 57.5s.

Shaun Gunn was selected for the U13B Shot Putt, and with a great throw of 8.32m, came 2nd place in the 'A' string.

Liam MacAdie and Craig Wares were selected for the U15B. Liam came first equal in the 100m 'A' string with a time of 12.9s, and ran a new PB in the 200m, coming 2nd place in the 'A' string with a time of 26.6s. In the Shot Putt, he threw a new PB of 9.36m, coming 3rd in the 'A' string.

Craig competed in the Javelin, coming 3rd in the 'A' string with a throw of 25.57m, and in the Long Jump came 7th in the 'A' string with a jump of 3.98m.

Both boys competed in the 4x100m relay race, helping the team home in 2nd place in a time of 53.9s.

Ruaridh Gallagher, Rob Murdoch and Andrew Nicolson were selected for the U17M.

Ruaridh competed in the 100m race, and in a field of accomplished sprinters, faired well to finish 8th in the 'A' string with a time of 13.4s.

Andrew ran in the 100m 'B' string race, coming 3rd with a time of 13.5s. Andrew also competed in the 800m race, coming 5th in the 'A' string with a time of 2m22.6s, along with Rob in the 'B' string race, coming 3rd with a time of 2m31.1s.

Rob also competed in the 1500m race coming 3rd in the 'A' string with a time of 5m11.2s.

At the High Jump, Ruaridh came 5th in the 'B' string with a jump of 1.35m. Ruaridh and Andrew finished their day in the 4x100m relay race, helping the team to 5th place in a time of 53.0s.

Natasha Morris was selected for the U17W. Feeling under the weather, she did well to manage a Long Jump of 3.97m, coming 7th in the 'A' string, in the Shot Putt she came 3rd in the 'A' string with a throw of 8.23m and in the Discus she came 1st in the 'A' string with a throw of 27.04m.
