American Tournament - Season 2000-2001

This Tournament is an Open handicapped competition involving any budding, up-and-coming, county or even international - who decides to appear on the day.
Organisers try and match couples from any club, in both mixed and level doubles, so that there are no real 'thrashings' involved, keeping everyone happy.
At the end of the tournament everyone meets up for a meal, in a local hotel - making this a social day out, all in one.

In past years there have been two tournaments, one at each end of the badminton season - taking place in Thurso and then in Wick. But due to the amount of tournaments that have begun to spring to life in the CBA season, it has become difficult to organise and produce numbers on the day. Hopefully, in the not to distant future this trend will change and return to two tournaments per year.

Bird & Carole win again - 09/12/00

An excellent turnout of competitors appeared for the 2000/2001 American Tournament, from as far a field as Dunbeath and way-up-west.

In all, each individual managed to have six games each in the time available on the day.
After the totals were added up - the top eight were then drawn from a hat to be put in pairs. Rather miraculously, the top paring that appeared on the day, Carole Mowat and James Henderson, managed to be drawn together, amazing...... But, that is the luck of the draw.

After a tough match Carole and Bird managed to win the tournament - each receiving a box of chocs.

At the end of the tournament around 12 people met in Thurso's Pentland Hotel for a meal and chat about the days highlights.
