Knockout Cup - Season 2000-2001
This is a
handicapped knockout competition between County League teams. All handicaps are
calculated after each team has played one and other, thus the reason for playing this
event so late in the season.
The current holders of the trophy are........ 'eBIG'H'.
Final
Castletown v Miller 'B'
The final of the Knockout Cup was held in Halkirk on Monday 19 March between Castletown and Miller Calder 'B'.
Miller 'B' started the match with a 90 point advantage and rated their chances of lifting the cup, very strongly - but Castletown were contemplating winning the double in the CBA season and nothing was getting in their way.
By the
half-way stage things were boiling up for a close finish, with Castletown needing to win
their 4 remaining matches by good margins to ensure success. Andy Nicolson and
Richard Scott were in blistering form beating their opponents Billy MacAdie and Chris
Williamson, convincingly.
Miller's 1st ladies Hilary and Marina managed to take further advantage of their handicap
by beating Pam MacKay and Amy Simpson 15-10, 15-9.
Castletown managed to claim the points they needed, in the last match, for a good team performance to win the cup by 28 points.

Semi-Final
Halkirk v Castletown
Controversy was rife in this match because the handicap adjudicators had worked out the wrong handicap points for Halkirk. But, both teams provided a very entertaining match, leaving everyone with a chill of excitement, some more than others, because the match went to the very last game and, very last point. In the end, Castletown won with a very 'dodgy' line decision that nobody was very keen to call.
Due to this, a member of 'e GANG (PM) - may have to be sacked, leaving a space for someone else to fill......
Miller 'B' v Dunnet
After speaking to players from both Miller 'B' and Dunnet, they both came to the conclusion that Miller had played well and easily beat Dunnet by one point, without the handicap of 50.
1st Round
Because there are 7 teams in the County League, Miller 'B' managed to skip the first round.
Halkirk v Miller 'A'
Halkirk began their match against Miller 'A' with a 70 point start. 'e BIG'H' managed to win this match fairly easily but this was probably due to Miller fielding a couple of juniors because of injuries to their stars.
Dunbeath v Dunnet
Despite Dunbeath going into the game with a large handicap, Dunnet were by no means flustered because they were playing in a hall with a roof the same size as theirs. After a close match, Dunnet pulled away with about 30 points to spare.
Wick v Castletown
Wick and Castletown, probably, had the closest game of all. With the two teams quiet evenly matched - it was always going to be a battle. Castletown managed to secure a win with only a couple of points to spare.
