Caithness Lads play for Country - Season 2001-2002
Bird & Sam overawed by bright lights
After speaking to 'Big Bird' regarding his, and 'Big Sam's' momentous debut performance for Scotland versus England in the veterans competition, he commented,"Daisy, it was like visiting Ceasars Palace in LA (America). The bright lights hit us and we were like two hairy-ar@@d rabbits in the middle of the road, waiting to get hit. We seemed to be lost and overcome by the whole occasion, leaving us nervous and searching for easy shots".
Although, the Caithness duo didn't manage to produce the goods for the team - this was by far-and-away an excellent achievement and one that I'm sure they will manage to follow, next season and many more years to come. On yersel' ladz. 'eGANG gives ye a BeeeeeG - CHA-CHA-CHA.Excellent performance gives Caithness duo Scotland cap
Following a successful venture in Glasgow, recently - James Henderson and Sam Campbell have been selected for a Scotland veterans team, who are to play against England, on January 2002.
The two Caithness lads played together in a 'Veterans' mens doubles - round robin competition, which was largely filled with ex- Internationalists and old-die hard badminton players with years of experience under their belts.
Now I'm not implying that the Caithness duo don't have any of these particular qualities, themselves - but I'm sure there were a few participants wondering who the 'tuchters' were and, what they were doing there.
Although the Caithness men did not manage to win the competition, their excellent performance against the top Veterans' mens doubles pairing, in the United Kingdom and Europe (Dan Travers and partner), was a reminder to the selectors that the 'slightly silvering duo' from the far north are good enough to mix it with the big boys.
During the match, they just lost out on the last point of the encounter and by 2 sets to 1. So lads, fill your boots, get stuck in and show the English a thing or two about how badminton should be played.
Oh aye, another thing - I hope the two of you are standing your hand when you're down there in the big smoke - because you dinna do it when you're up here......
