Restricted Championships - Season 2006-2007 -
20/01/07
Treble Winner - Abdul Mkith
CBA held its annual restricted tournament in Wick Games Hall. Abdul
Mkith emerged as the day's top player with the eighteen-year-old winning a
hat-trick of tiles. He did not drop a set in winning his three league
matches before winning out in two tough sets in the final against Wick club
colleague Thomas Sutherland to lift the Mens singles title.
Abdul then partnered Andrew Falconer to success in the level doubles after
prevailing in a hard-fought final versus senior pairing Mark Jones and Andy
Nicolson. Mark was also on the losing side of the net in the final of the
mixed. He and Thurso partner Pauline Gunn took the first set versus Abdul
and Thurso's Michelle Cowie. But the latter hit back to take the second
before winning the decider 21-18.
Donna Majilton was unbeaten in taking the singles title while the ladies
doubles proved an unpredictable affair with Pauline and Michelle eventually
pipping Dunnet duo Susan Craigie and Lindsay Coghill.
