Shetland Inter-County - Season 2007-2008 - 06/03/08

| An early morning trophy presentation for the ladz, Lee & Owen..... |
On this occasion, it was Shetland's pleasure to travel to Caithness for the Annual Inter-County match, held in Thurso Games Hall.
Unfortunately, Shetland suffered a last minute call off from Jason Jamieson who was struggling with a 'tickly cough' and 'sore boooug', which meant Graham Keith had to play more than his usual quota of 2 matches to 4. A task for anyone on one night but the powerful Shetlander battled through the pain and pressure of winning his matches for the cause, to return home with a great report card and no loses.
Great wins for youngsters, Michelle Cowie & Donna Majilton and Abdul Mkith & Martyn Cook, in the level doubles, kept the home side in high spirits going onto the Mixed pairings.
Looking at the scoresheet, it seems to imply Shetland strolled this match - but, following Ian Nicolson & Donna Majilton and Abdul Mkith & Casey Sangster winning their Mixed Doubles' matches - the tie was very much wide open and a possible draw was on the cards.
Benji & Jane and Sam & Pam lost out in tough matches versus experienced opponents, which left the final two tie's needing to go Caithnesses way for the cherished draw.
Cookie and Michelle stretched their opponents to, pretty much, the last point of their contest but the Shetlander's made the local pairing rue missed chances and just pipped them in the final set.
John and Carole have been in great form over the last few events and very much continued this going into a tough tie against the Shetland number one pairing. But, after continuous long and tight rallies in a three set match, it was the latter who went onto win in three sets and 8-4, overall.
Congratulations to youngsters, Abdul Mkith and Donna Majilton for winning both their games in tough matches.
Thank you to the Indian Palace, Thurso for an excellent meal, Skins for the entertainment and I hope Annette was happy she got her farewell party that went on until the early hours, on a 'School night'!!! Good night, excellent company and hope it continues for many years to come.
