Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2008-2009

Rural League - 10/04/08
Castletown 4 - 1 Halkirk

A heavy defeat against the County League Champion's but quite a few positives can be taken from this game.

It was played at the all-weather pitch at Naver due to both Halkirk & Castletown being unplayable, but with the County League fast approaching, we needed the game to help boost our fitness levels.

eBiGH went into the game missing 6 players with injury, suspension & work commitments ruling out Stevie C, Gavin, Bainer, Spike, Charlie & Casper.  Although we were short, we made a bright start and actually took the lead inside two minutes. Blocks played a clever free kick out to Rusty and his centre was tapped into the net at the back post by Luke. Both teams seemed to be enjoying passing the ball about on the flat surface and the first half was a good, even contest. Castletown got on level terms before the break following slack defensive play from a corner kick.

Half Time 1 - 1

We were still able to compete quite well up until the hour mark but then Castletown's superior fitness levels told and they took the lead after springing our offside trap.  They could've gone onto score quite a few more. Our lads were visibly tired, lost their shape a bit for the last 20 minutes and most disappointingly of all, a fair bit of moaning and gurning with each other creeped into the side. Poop had a few good one-on-one saves but was unable to prevent them scoring two more before the final whistle.  It wasn't all one way traffic as Kitten and Crispy both had good efforts and we had a very strong shout for a pen turned down.

A good performance for an hour of this fixture before we eventually suffered for our lack of match fitness. We did play some good stuff in bits and if we can get some of our first choice players back into the set-up then things are looking good for the season ahead.

Go Wildcat's!!
