Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2008-2009
League Division 1 - 21/04/08
Halkirk 2 - 5 Castletown
The first home game of the season sees us beaten by the defending league champion's in a match that was a closer contest than the scoreline suggests.
With the condition of the Recreation Park having improved a lot in the previous few days, both teams were able to contribute to what was an entertaining game. The visitors started the better but we soon got into the game as we started to win the midfield battle. Chances were at a premium in the early stages but we took the lead around the midway point of the first half. Good work by Gavin released Kitten out on the left and his cross found it's way to Blocks at the back post and he powered a shot into the roof of the net. This stung Castletown back into life and they pulled level within ten minutes. We failed to track a run from the midfield and although Poop pulled of a great save, he unluckily saw the rebound fall to the feet of an unmarked attacker 6 yards out who tapped the ball into the unguarded net.
Half Time 1 - 1
The start of the second half was still quite even, but around the hour mark we fell 3 - 1 behind after two quick-fire goals.
The heads didn't drop though and we got a goal back almost immediately. Again, Kitten provided the assist from the left hand side and this time his cross to the back post found Charlie, who powered a header into the bottom corner. The game continued to go from end to end but then with about ten minutes left, with Nige about to go for it with a couple of attacking substitutions, they scored a fourth with a goal on the break. The scoring was completed in the final minutes they made it 5 - 2.
A much improved performance from the Swifts game, with Spike and Stevie Campbell both missing from the side.
Again, the major difference in the end was the fitness levels between the two sides as Castletown looked much stronger in the final 20 minutes. We need to keep the heads up though and maintain this level of performance against the Acks, in our next game.
Go Wildcat's!!
