Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2008-2009

Highland Amateur Cup - Round 1 - 10/05/08
Halkirk 1 - 1 Keiss

Another disappointing result as we only drew with Keiss for the second time this season.

With 5 players unavailable for selection for various reasons, this was never going to be an easy contest but we dominated to such an extent that we should've won easily.

We started the game reasonably well and the best of our chances fell to Rusty but his lack of confidence and match sharpness showed as his two efforts failed to really trouble their keeper. After being on top for most of the first half, we seemed to drop our effort and work rate which led to the visitors taking the lead five minutes from half time with a long range effort which found the top corner.

Half Time 0 - 1

Knowing that we had to recover quickly from the loss of the goal and we managed to get back on level terms early in the second half, when Rusty took a chance. He found a space in the box and scored with a great finish low across the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Our tails were up now and we went onto enjoy the majority of possession for the rest of the game as the visitors struggled to make it out of their own half.

We didn't really create too many clear cut chances as most of our efforts came from the edge of the box. Gavin had a couple of snapshots and Rusty hit the bar as we went in search of the winner.

The goal almost arrived two minutes from time.

Great work from Kitten out on the right led to him floating a wonderful cross to the back post which Luke met with a powerful header which was unfortunately a little bit too close the keeper, but he still produced a fantastic save to push it over the bar.

The final goalmouth action of the game saw Duck try and place an effort into the far corner but it took a deflection and rather trundled into the keeper's arms.

A very disappointing result in a game we should've won easily. Overall, it was a reasonable performance considering we were missing a few first choice players and I'd like to think we will have enough about us to win the replay.

It's another trip to Keiss and that sloping pitch is always a bit of a leveller, so it won't be easy. We'll hopefully travel there with more of a squad to pick from and a healthy travelling support.

Go Wildcat's!!
