Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2008-2009

League Division 1 - 30/04/08
Keiss 1 - 1 Halkirk

We finally get our first point of the season after our trip to the sloping pitch, but it was a case of 2 points dropped as it was a game we should've won comfortably.

It was a miserable, wet night and the conditions were not exactly conducive to good football but we started the game positively and looked well up to the task of taking 3 points. We were the dominant team for the most of the first half but once again failed to convert some of the many chances that were created.

Bainer was once again our most dangerous attacker and he was unlucky not to have a hat-trick in the first half alone. One shot actually hit one post and ran the whole way across the line and struck the other upright! Blocksy, who was closest to the incident, actually felt the ball had crossed the line but the goal wasn't given. Bainer did finally make the breakthrough when his driven 'cross-come-shot' found it's way into the net via a deflection. He was unfortunate again shortly afterwards when he beat the keeper with a shot but the ball somehow slowed up near the line and allowed a defender to clear the danger.

We continued to threaten and had several near misses but couldn't increase our lead. It wasn't all one way traffic though and the home side did have a few chances on the break but were denied by Poop who was having a good solid game in goals. The equaliser was conceded, however, right on half time. They won a free kick out wide and the cross was met by a powerful header which left Poop with no chance.

Half Time 1 - 1

We lifted ourselves after the disappointment of conceding that goal and continued to dominate the match for much of the second half. We came closest to taking the lead through Bainer, again but his 25 yard 'piledriver' was tipped over the bar by the keeper.

Stevie Campbell tried his luck from distance a few times without much success and Blocksy somehow managed to miss a chance from about 3 yards! They were always a threat on the break and almost snatched what would've been an undeserved winner on a couple of occasions.

We continued to press right up to the final whistle but a combination of hard luck, poor final ball and poor finishing meant we were unable to clinch the 3 points.

Another 2 points dropped in a game that should've been won.

That's 2 games in a row that we've enjoyed the majority of possession and created lots of good goal scoring opportunities but we have failed to get the 3 points. It's a major blow and very disappointing but we need to regroup and raise the level for the visit of the Stabs in our next game.

Go Wildcat's!!
