Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2008-2009
League Division 1 - 16/06/08
The Wildcat's finally register 3 league points from a game as we secured our first win of the season It was no coincidence that the win came about with Neillie being able to call upon a much stronger squad which allowed him to name five subs and, have another five players missing out altogether. We started the game positively and it was only really a matter of time before we took the lead against a young Keiss team. The first goal came after ten minutes when good work from Bainer left Adamson with a tap-in at the back post. The lead was doubled shortly afterwards and once again it was that man Adamson who got on the scoresheet as he netted with a neatly placed finish into the bottom corner.
It was three before the break. A clever through ball from Gavin put Bainer through for a chase with the keeper, which he just won to toe-poke it into the empty net. He took a sore one for his troubles, but his pain was eased by the fact he had another goal to his season's tally. Half Time 3 - 0 The second half continued in much the same way as the first as we dominated possession and created several chances. Returning captain Stevie Campbell scored the fourth when he leaped like a salmon at the back post to bullet a header past the keeper. Gavin made it five, with a trademark free kick into the top corner, which left the keeper with no chance.
Poop was finally called into action when he had to face a penalty after what seemed a harsh decision following an alleged push in the box. Ginger threw himself low to his right to expertly save the powerfully struck spot kick. We scored our sixth of the game with about five minutes remaining following a good move involving two of the substitutes. Gavin took a quick free kick to release Tarpot (making a long awaited return to action following a back operation) down the right and Muttley expertly volleyed his first time shot home. This wasn't the end of the scoring as the visitors notched a consolation from their second penalty of the game. Poop once again got a hand to it but was unable to keep it out. A much better performance from the team although it wasn't against the strongest of opposition to be fair. We could've scored quite a few more with their keeper having several good saves and Kitten & the excellent Luke both went close on more than one occasion. We need to maintain this form for a few games though as we need to start climbing the table. Go Wildcat's!! report provided by Liam Bremner
