Fosters Scottish Amateur Cup - Round 2 - 04/10/08
Trophies International, Aberdeen 3 - 5 Halkirk

Halkirk have once again entered the Scottish Amateur Cup and opened up our campaign with a battling win against Trophies International in Balmedie.
With a 2pm kick off just outside Aberdeen it was an early departure for the team with Sexy & Nige taking up the driving duties of the two mini-buses. Arriving in plenty of time, although there was some slight confusion as to whether or not we were at the correct location due to the derelict looking appearance of the changing rooms and what appeared to be a lack of proper lines on the pitch.
Due to the early start and travelling in the bus, it was perhaps no surprise that we got off to a slightly sluggish start and fell behind to a headed goal, early on.
We managed to blow away the cobwebs, got into the game and missed a couple of good chances before drawing level. Adamson swung a corner high to the back post where it was met by Spike, leaping like the proverbial salmon and hanging in the air for a length of time that 'Michael Jordan' would've been proud of, to bullet his header into the net.
We weren't on level terms for long, however as the home side regained the lead with a quite fantastic shot into the postage stamp that left Flapper with no chance whatsoever.
We were able to regain our composure and went into the break on level terms when good work by Mikey released Kitten down the inside right channel and he cut in to unleash a shot into the bottom corner.
Half Time 2 - 2
A personnel swap and couple of tactical changes meant we were much improved in the second half and should've had the game wrapped upby the hour mark.
We were unable to turn our possession into goals though - after missing quite a few chances before finally taking the lead with about 25 minutes remaining.
Gavin floated a good ball to the back post where it was met by the inrushing Mikey who stretched to meet the ball and direct his finish into the back of the net via the underside of the bar.

We should've put the game out of sight but Adamson somehow managed to miss a chance from all of a yard with the goal at his mercy but his effort was one that 'Peter Van Vossen' would've been proud of!
Unbelievably, we then let our hosts back into the game as a communication breakdown in defence gifted them a corner which was only partially cleared to the edge of the box, from where they scored to level things up at three all.
It was now beginning to look like TI were going to have make the long trip north to Recreation Park for a replay but we then scored two goals in the final ten minutes to secure the victory.
We got back in front after a miscued shot from Kitten travelled across the face of the goal and Johnnie 'Vegas' Mackay showed a typical poacher's instinct to be in the right place at the right time and headed the ball into the net.
The result was put beyond doubt with a couple of minutes to go when Mikey showed some good footwork in the box and kept his composure to calmly score his second of the game. The ref blew shortly afterwards to confirm our win and our progression into the next round of the cup.
A good, battling win for us but one which should've been a lot more comfortable than the scoreline suggests. Although we were a long way from our best, we still showed enough to have won the game comfortably but struggled to finish Trophies off and also looked tired late in the game.
It was a good trip away and Flapper did well coming into the goals to help us out. Sinky showed up well in midfield (and also in the Liam Bremner look alike competition), Mikey took his goals very well and Spike & Kitten gave their usual solid performances.
Thank you to Trophies International for their hospitality and wish them all the best for the future.
We now await the draw for the next round to see if we have to hit the road (and whatever else) again.
