Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2009-2010

League Division 1 - 01/07/09
Halkirk 0 - 7 Castletown

Blokes

Following their emphatic Highland Cup victory on Saturday, the Wildcat's came crashing back down to earth with a hammering at the hands of the Quarrymen at Recreation Park.

Nige had an extremely depleted squad to choose from as a spate of call-offs for one reason or another left him short of seven squad members.

Despite being so short though, there was absolutely no excuse to turn in the type of performance we did in the first half.

We were absolutely terrible and a disgrace to the red and black shirt as we got out-classed and out-played by the C-Town boys.

We were one nil down inside two minutes and it just got worse from there.

It was four around the half hour mark, when we finally started to calm down and steady the ship. The game was already lost but Spike almost got a goal back but his snap-shot from Rusty's pass was well saved.

Then, to sum up our night we scored two own goals before the break!!

Half Time 0 - 6

There wasn't really a roasting from Nige at half-time as everyone knew they had let themselves down and failed to show up, so we went out to try and regain some pride in the second half.

Butch

We did this as it was a much more even contest and both teams had chances.

Our best chance again fell to Spike, but his header from Gavin's corner was cleared off the line.

Young Zander Banks came off the bench for his first run-out of the season and showed up well.

The scoring was completed in injury time when the visitors made it seven.

An absolutely embarrassing performance and result, similar to the 9-0 defeat we suffered at the hands of the Swifts last season

The lack of heart and commitment in the first half is extremely worrying. The fact that we improved in the second half and also that there is a lot of important personnel to return, means that we shouldn't be too down-heartened and can hopefully put this one to an extremely bad night at the office.

We've got to get back on track on Tuesday night though with a very difficult trip down to Wick to play Groats as we need to try and find our form again before we visit Avoch.

Go Wildcat's!!
