Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2009-2010
League Division 1 - 04/05/09
Swifts 4 - 2 Halkirk

Our second consecutive defeat, in a match which we were hoping to bounce back from our poor perfomance last week.
Nige made a few changes to the team that had performed poorly against Groats last week, and one of these changes meant that Pies came in to make his competitive debut, in the goals.
Unfortunately, his first task in a Halkirk shirt was to pick the ball out the back of the net, as poor defending saw Swifts take the lead inside two minutes.
We didn't learn from this and the home side continued to enjoy most of the possession. More poor defending and some clinical finishing meant we were left with a mountain to climb after going 3 goals behind inside the first 15 minutes.
Despite being shellshocked by the scoreline we did fight our way back into the match and Mikey should've pulled a goal back but tried to be a bit too clever when through one-on-one with the keeper.
A wicked, inswinging corner from Gavin was then cleared off the line before we did eventually pull a goal back.
Again, Gavin's delivery from a corner kick was dangerous and Mikey was able to poke the ball past the keeper and into the net to give us a bit of hope before the break.
Half Time 3 - 1

We were much improved in the second half and the game became more of an even contest.
As we pushed to try and get another goal, the Swifts always looked dangerous on the break and they had a few chances to increase their lead.
We didn't really create too many clear cut chances and failed to work their keeper.
We did reduce the deficit to 3-2, though with about 15 minutes to go when Stevie C forced a mistake from a defender when putting him under pressure and when it looked like he was going to shoot, he passed the ball to Charlie, who was left with the simple task of rolling the ball into the bottom corner.
This set us up for a grandstand finish, to try and get a point that we probably didn't deserve. But, the home side's two goal margin was almost instantly restored when Pies was unable to hold a shot and the rebound was forced into the net.
This fourth goal knocked the stuffing out of us, we were unable to get back into the game and Swifts comfortably saw out the final ten minutes and clinched the 3 points.
A reasonable performance for the final hour of this match but what went on beforehand was simply not good enough.
We can't afford to be giving teams 3 goal starts and expect to win games.
Here's hoping we can get back to winning ways against Lairg in the Highland Cup on Saturday before we welcome the defending league champion's Pentland United to Recreation Park in our next league match.
Go Wildcat's!!
