Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2010-2011
League Division 1 - 19/04/10
Halkirk 1 - 3 Castletown

A disappointing start to the new league campaign as we suffer a home defeat in our first match under Sexy's management.
The night got off to a good start, with the presentation of a nice new kit courtesy of P Lockhart, Joinery but unfortunately we couldn't mark the occasion with a victory.
We were slow to get going as the visitors settled quickly and were much the better side in the opening exchanges. We were able to see out the early pressure and after they had missed a couple of good chances, we got ourselves into the game and should've gone in front.
Brenda was very unlucky not to score with a shot from the edge of the box, when he met Gavin's low corner with a first time effort that seemed destined for the top corner, only to see their keeper make a great save to deny him.
Bainer was next to be thwarted when he fired in a shot from a tight angle but their keeper was able to deal with a shot that was pretty much straight at him.
Shortly before half time though, we were hit by a sucker punch on the counter attack. They were able to break through a couple of challenges and got to the edge of the box before Pies was beaten by a deflected shot.
Half Time 0 - 1
We never really got going in the second half as we struggled to get out of our half due to having to play into a strong wind.

We needed to keep things tight for a while and try to keep more possession but we were two down before the hour mark when a quick switch of play saw their right midfielder unmarked to steer the ball across Pies and into the bottom corner.
We didn't let the heads drop though and pulled a goal back inside the last twenty minutes when their keeper was unable to deal with Campbell's through ball and Bainer was able to walk the ball into the empty net.
Hopes of a comeback didn't last long though as The Quarrymen scored with their next attack.
They won a corner on the right and the cross was fired into the back of the net to make it 3-1 and secure the win.
Full Time 1 - 3
A disappointing way to start the season but there were some positives to take out of the game. We were very much the team on top before they got their opener but that goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of us.
Castletown were much fitter than us, that showed and the fact that they've got so many Halkirk United players was also evident as their match sharpness was better and they also seemed to be able to cope better with what was a very bumpy Recreation Park.
We need to keep our heads up and can't feel sorry for ourselves as next up is a trip down to Wick to play the defending champions Groats.
Go Wildcat's!!
