Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2010-2011
League Division 1 - 05/08/10
John O'Groats 4 - 1 Halkirk
Our third trip of the season (and second in the space of three days) to the bowling green that is JOG's pitch.
We took to the field with what was very much a threadbare squad as call-offs due to injuries, work commitments and probably a general lack of interest left us with a lack of numbers.
We fell behind to a cracking goal from their young striker before we got back on level terms with a bullet of a trademark free kick from Gavin Bremner, which could well be the last of his distinguished 25 year career!!!
We were then the better side for the remainder of the first half but couldn't get a second goal.
Half Time 1 - 1
The hosts came out in the second half with a lot more purpose to their game and deservedly won the game, although they were somewhat fortunate in the manner they scored their goals.
They took the lead following their player getting a lucky rebound following a tackle. Their third was an own goal and their final goal was a cross that sailed into the top corner.
We kept on battling to the end but failed to really work their keeper enough despite getting into good positions at times.
A much improved performance from Tuesday night but the lack of strength and depth in the squad was obvious as we were simply unable to cope with several call-offs.
The attitude was much better than our previous match and I'd say we possibly deserved something from the game but as usual, the luck on the night went against us.
I must give a mention to the ref (Stevie Tait) though, who I thought produced the best refereeing performance that I've seen this season, particularly out in JOG as it's a very intimidating place to ref a game, as we experienced in our two previous visits this season.
Go Wildcat's!!
