Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2010-2011

League Division 1 - 19/05/10
Halkirk 1 - 3 John O'Groats

Another defeat for The Wildcat's but this was very much a game that should have produced 3 points for Sexy's lads. Pup returned to the starting XI, replacing Stevie Blackwood in the only change to the side from the previous match in Dunnet.

We started the match very well and should've taken an early lead as Spike had a couple of great opportunities to score. His first effort, a snap-shot at the front post was well saved by their keeper but he should've done better with a free header a couple of minutes later following good work from Mikey.

We enjoyed the majority of the possession in the first half but very few chances were created by either side, with the visitors restricted to a few set-pieces and a couple of efforts that failed to trouble Pies.

The ref was struggling to keep a lid on what was a very competitive contest and there were four bookings in the first half, although the only caution that JOG picked up should really have been a red card as Kitten was taken down on the edge of the box by their last defender, but the ref only deemed the offence worthy of a booking.

Tempers were extremely frayed on both sides as the first half came to an end.

Half Time 0-0

The second half started in much the same way as the first, with us much the better side and it was no surprise when we took the lead just before the hour mark.

Rusty did well to make something of a hopeful ball into the box and when the ball broke to Charlie, he showed a cool head to slot the ball into the bottom corner.

Unfortunately, he got carried away with the excitement of scoring and proceeded to take his top off in celebration, for which the ref gave him his second yellow card of the game and sent him off!!

It was then very much a case of whether or not we could hold on to our advantage but unfortunately half an hour of pressure proved to be too much to withstand.

We did come close to getting a second goal when Brenda glanced a Mikey free kick just wide of the post but as we tired and the effects of being a man down really showed, JOG scored three goals in the final fifteen minutes to give them a win that they didn't deserve.

An extremely disappointing result as it was a game that was there for the taking and having taken the lead, their should only have been one winner.

However, Charlie undid all his good work in giving us the lead to foolishly overdo his celebrations and despite it being a harsh yellow card, he left the ref with no option other than to send him off. He let down himself and all his team mates who worked so hard to get a much needed win but in the end came up just short.

We can't dwell on it though and need to get it out of our systems when we travel to play Keiss in what is shaping up to be a relegation six pointer.

Go Wildcat's!!
