Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2010-2011
League Division 1 - 23/08/10
Staxigoe 2 - 3 Halkirk
Our second successive victory, and one which ensured our first division status for next year.
Following on from the Keiss game, it was another good performance as we inflicted a very rare home defeat on what is a good Staxigoe side.
We made a good start to the game and took an early lead through Mikey with what was a goal of the season contender when he took a pass from Charlie and hit it first time into the top corner.
As they were going down the slope in the first half, it was no real surprise that the home side went on to have more of the game and they managed to go into the break ahead.
The first was down to a wicked defelction and the second was after Pies was unlucky to see a great save from a free kick rebound to an unmarked attacker who fired the ball into the empty net.
Half Time 2 - 1
The second half proved to be a good even contest with both sides producing some decent football, despite the poor conditions. Staxigoe started to threaten our goal more and more as the game wore on but the game turned on one piece of brilliant defending by Swandog.
After Pies had been rounded by their forward, Gav produced a fantastic goal-line block with his chest and cleared it our for a corner.
We more or less went straight up the field to get back on level terms.
Brenda rose highest at a corner kick and direct his header past the despairing dive of the keeper.
With the home side still reeling from this, we took the lead almost immediately.
Charlie showed good skill to get to the bye-line and his cut back was just waiting to be tapped in and young Liam Sexy duly obliged from all of 12 inches to clinch an unexpected victory.
A good performance and a positive way to end the season with two successive victories.
It was a threadbare squad yet again but we dug in, battled hard and played some good football against tough opponents.
It shows what we can achieve when we put our minds to it but unfortunately this has been evident on very few occasions this season.
Go Wildcat's!!
