Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2010-2011

League Division 1 - 01/06/10
Halkirk 1 - 2 Staxigoe

Another defeat for The Wildcat's but yet another game that we probably deserved some of the points.

With Bainer once again unavailable due to work commitments, Duck came back into the side in the only change to Saturday's starting line up.

It was an evenly contested first half that we probably just had the better of but neither side were able to make a breakthrough.

We missed a couple of great opportunites to take the lead. Once, when good work by Charlie saw him fire a ball across the six yard box but no-one had gambled to get to the back post for what would've been a tap-in. Then, Spike was denied when through one-on-one with the keeper. The rebound fell to Dale but he sclaffed his shot into the ground and it was comfortably cleared.

The visitors only real effort of note was a free kick from distance that Pies dealt with comfortably.

Half Time 0 - 0

We made a shocking start to the second half being sluggish right from the first whistle and it was no surprise that the visitors took the lead after a sustained spell of pressure.

We failed to clear our lines following a corner and when the ball was played into the back post, they scored with a fine header.

We picked ourselves up after this and got back but we then fell further behind to a slightly freakish goal.

They broke on the counter attack but just when it looked like we had dealt with the danger, the ball fell to Luke Sawyer, back on his old home pitch and his speculative ball into the box looped over a back-tracking Pies and into the net.

Again, we gave it a right good go for the rest of the match and deservedly got one back through an excellent finish from Charlie.

Butch (who really made a difference when he came on) did well to keep a loose ball in the box alive and fed his brother, who then produced a sharp turn to wrong foot two defenders and the keeper and placed the ball into the top corner.

Our tails were up by this point and although we enjoyed plenty of possession, we were pretty much restricted to set-pieces into the box which they were able to deal with, before a change of tactic saw Mikey roll the ball to Swandog who saw his 30 yard effort fly just over the bar and that was the closest we came to getting a point.

Another hard luck story for the team I'm afraid and we don't seem to getting the rub of the green at the moment at all.

We're certainly working hard enough, playing some good stuff but a combination of a failure to convert our chances and not getting the breaks is really hurting us just now. We've just got to keep up the hard work and hopefully our fortunes will change in the coming games.

Go Wildcat's!!
