Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2010-2011

League Division 1 - 05/05/10
Halkirk 2 - 0 Swifts

The Wildcat's claimed their first points of the season as they ran out pretty comfortable winners against a slightly unfamiliar looking Swifts side.

The visitors look as if they have lost a few players from their squad compared to last season and it looks as if they might need a few games to get into their stride.

We were in no mood to take things easy on them though as we scored from our first meaningful attack after just a few minutes.

Kitten picked up a loose ball about 25 yards out before firing an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner of the net.

We didn't really settle down after the early goal though and the first half was a very even contest, with not a great deal of football being played.

Muttley and Campbell both had half chances to increase our lead but both of them made similar attempts from the edge of the box as they dragged their left foot shots wide of the target.

The defence was well marshalled by Brenda (who bravely turned out after performing a bit of a DIY strapping job on his broken hand) but they were breached once before the break as a shot beat Pies only to strike the post and rebound to safety.

We also had a couple fo scares due to poor marking from corner kicks but we were able to get to half time with our lead intact.

Half Time 1-0

We started the second half with a real sense of urgency about us and Charlie should've marked his return from suspension with a couple of goals but he was foiled twice by their keeper in one-on-one situations and also fired over with the goal gaping.

He continued to get in behind their defence and it wasn't long before this provided the second goal.

He got to the bye-line and cut in towards goal before looking up to see a couple of options in the box, and he picked out Kitten who fired the ball past the keeper from about 8 yards.

We went on to dominate the rest of the game, with Charlie & Muttley looking dangerous on either flank. They combined well for what looked like a third goal when Charles teed up Muttley for a tap-in from the edge of the box but the ref somehow deemed the goal offside in what was one of several baffling offside decisions in the second half.

Spike and Mikey both could've increased the lead but neither could get a goal their play deserved before the visitors were reduced to ten men late on for an incident that not many folk had a clear view of but was deemed violent conduct.

That was the end of the action and we comfortably saw the game out to get our first win of the season and secure a much needed three points.

An improved performance from the lads in a game that we really needed to win. Again, it wasn't easy to play football on a very bumpy Recreation Park surface but we were much the better side and deserved our victory.

We're still a long way from being fit though and Embo pulling out of our Highland Cup tie certainly hasn't helped us as we're needing all the game time and match sharpness we can get. It does mean though that we progress to the next round without kicking a ball and have a free weekend before our trip to Ham Park on Tuesday to play the Stabs.

Go Wildcat's!!
