Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2011-2012
League Division 1 - 27/07/11
John O'Groats 3 - 4 Halkirk
A massive three points in a game which we looked to have won early doors, seemed to throw away and then win it again.
We made a great start and it was no real surprise when we took the lead.
Blocks played in Gavin Sutherland with a great pass and he slid the ball past the advancing keeper and into the bottom corner.
Great work from the returning Charlie out on the left saw him present Kitten with a tap-in to double the lead.
It wasn't long before it was 3-0 and this time it was Charlie himself that got on the scoresheet with a fine shot across the keeper.
That should've been it, game over - but the home side grabbed a goal back before half time and wee panicked!
We didn't get going at the start of the second half and by the time we had played an hour JOG were back to 3-3!!
We were stunned by this, their tails were up and it looked like there would only be one winner???
We showed a bit of character for a change and good work by Rusty saw him win a penalty which Blocks converted.
We then had to dig in for the rest of the game as they came at us but we were able to restrict them to long range efforts and set-pieces and held on for a great win.
An unexpected but just about deserved win as we had to play another game with a side hit by a few call-offs.
We certainly went the hard way about it though as the game should've been finished after half an hour and to let them back in could've been fatal but we somehow managed to regroup and go on and get the three points.
We're not safe from the drop yet and need to match this effort and attitude in our remaining two games to ensure our safety and perhaps even climb the table.
Go Wildcat's!!
