Colin Macleod Cup 2nd Round - 20/05/11
John O'Groats 1 - 3 Halkirk
A great win out in JOG to see us progress to the semi-final of the Colin Macleod Cup.
We started the game poorly and the home side were very much the team on top, early doors and we were thankful to Pies for making a couple of fine saves to keep the scores level.
We settled down after that shaky opening spell and went on to pretty much dominate the rest of the match.
Again, we missed some great chances to take the lead but just when it looked like we'd be going in at the break all-square, Pup broke the deadlock with a left foot thunderbolt from the edge of the box.
We doubled our lead more or less straight from the kick-off.
Charles tried to play in Gunny with a back heel flick, but when the ball rebounded back into his path, he nonchalantly curled a 25 yarder into the top corner of the net that left the keeper standing admiring it.
It wasn't long before it was three.
Charlie's through ball played in Pup and he fired a volley past the keeper to clinch the victory.
They did get a goal back late on but it was no more than a consolation and we comfortably saw out the game.
A great victory to get us into the semi-final but more importantly it was a great performance.
We played some really good football at times, which isn't easy out there and probably deserved to win by a bigger margin.
Every single player in Red & Black put in a great shift as we produced what was probably our finest ever performance in JOG.
We need to maintain that level of performance, as we've got some big games coming up.
Go Wildcat's!!
