Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2011-2012
Highland Amateur Cup Round 3 - 17/06/11
Pentland United 1 - 0 Halkirk
Our involvement in this seasons' Highland Cup has ended after a controversial defeat in Dunnet.
This was a game where the home side were always going to enjoy the majority of possession and territorial advantage and this was exactly how the first half panned out.

Despite the hosts having most of the ball, Pies only really had to make a couple of saves in the first period and we might even have gone in at half time with the lead but Del missed a header from point-blank range.
The second half was very much the same with PU having most of the ball but a fine defensive display kept them at bay and their frustration was quite evident.
Stabs had a great chance to take the lead when a rash challenge from Stevie gave them a penalty but Pies produced a great save to keep the scores level.
Our joy was short-lived, as they scored with their next attack, although the goal was controversial to say the least.

We foolishly allowed a cross ball to bounce on our six yard line and get to the back post from where a shot was driven in. It hit the bar, came back down to hit the post, cleared by Pup and we thought the danger had passed. However, to our dismay, the officials had ruled that the ball had, somehow, crossed the line at some point and awarded the goal.
A furious Pies was booked for his protests as he was adamant that it hadn't crossed the line.
We almost took the game to extra time but Pup's front post effort was tipped round the post by their stand-in keeper.
A disappointing defeat in the end, although we can't dispute the fact that the Stabs were the better side for most of the game.
We defended really well and for a while it looked like we were going to be rewarded for all our hard work and to get knocked out by a goal that a lot of spectators and players felt never crossed the line is very hard to take.
We just need to ensure that we approach our remaining games with the same attitude and should be winning more than we lose.
Go Wildcat's!!
