August Medal - 06 August 05
Handy Andy wins the Candy

Conditions more akin to the Winter Alliances greeted members as they teed off to contest the August Medal, a biting cool wind and intermittent showers. With not one score breaking par or indeed matching par it was a surprise to find the CSS at 69.

There was only one birdie all day in Division two and that was courtesy of Terry Grace who slipped in a two at the short 5th hole. Mike Browne keeping the ball under the wind took fourth spot with 97-22-75. Desperately keeping the ball in play and on the fairway was Bill McIntosh scrambling round with figures of 90-16-74 to secure third place. Colin Stewart disappointed at dropping from Division One to Division two scored the lowest gross with an 87 and a card reading 87-13-74 to edge out Bill on the countback and do enough with the Stableford adjustment to get himself promoted back to Division One. The winner of the August Medal in Division two was Ian Sutherland only recently getting back to competitive golf following a broken ankle and doing enough for a very comfortable win to master very difficult conditions with 89-18-71.

Division One didn't fare much better with birdies tough to find however Gavin Gunn found the green and slotted in a birdie two at the short 15th. The lowest gross of the day went to his father Alistair Gunn who proved when conditions are tough a good seasoned campaigner can find the greens and make the putts grinding out the pars for 79-7-72 for fourth position.

The man in form struggling but not losing the Midas touch on the greens with birdies at the 14th and a grandstand finish with a two at the 18th was Peter McCartney carding 83-11-72 to take third place. Great to see Edgar Wyllie making his comeback also from a broken leg in his first Competition this year make second place with 82-11-71 which was an impressive effort. Winning the August Medal and coping best with the blustery conditions was Andy Bain with a solid 82-12-70. No birdies but rock solid pars were all that was needed to scoop up the medal and tame the wind.
