Club Championship Qualifiers
Qualifiers now known & Latest News

  • In the Scratch - Gavin Sutherland has beaten Lee Parnell and now plays Richard MacDonald.

With the dust settled and all the various calculations made we have a very interesting draw in all three categories with a lot of surprises amongst the finalists. The best Qualifier for the Scratch Club Championship was Graeme Dunnett laying out his stall as defending Champion with two best rounds of 74, 76-150. This was closely followed by Richard McDonald with 76, 75-151 and Raymond Taylor a past Champion with 79, 72-151. After having a great round in the July Medal Don C.Mackay made it into 4th spot with 80, 72-152. Don came close a couple of years ago and will be bidding for the Title this time round. The other eight Qualifiers were led by Bruce Mackay (153), Gavin Sutherland (154), David Dunbar (155), John O'Brien (155), Sandy Chisholm (157), Murdo MacDonald (157), Lee Parnell (158) and Ian Ritchie (160) who play off to meet the first four who are seeded in the first round. With new faces challenging this year for the Club Champion's Title, will we have a new name on the honours board? A lot will be regretting missing a second qualifying score.

In the Handicap section we had a clear leading contender in Andy Whitelaw with rounds of nett 68, 70-138. Steve Lucas playing his best round this year in the July Medal had 73, 66-139. The other Qualifiers in the Handicap section were Andy Bain (142), Steve Efemey (143), Cammie Ross (144), Bob Earnshaw (144), Billy Moore (145) and getting the final spot Bill McIntosh (146). There were nine players within two shots of qualifying and they must be cursing missed opportunities. Again too many players only had one qualifying score so there will be a new name on the trophy.

The Seniors section also makes interesting reading particularly as they are youthful Seniors and would probably have expected to qualify elsewhere. Leading the pack is Jock Eunson (146) closely followed by the defending Champion Chris Hobson (147), Evan Sutherland (147), Danny O'Hagan (147), John Disbury (148), Fred Groves (150) a past winner of the Club Championship, Bill Budding (151) and Alistair Gunn (151) claiming the last spot.

The Finals of the Club Championships will be played on Sunday 21st August.
