Reay Ladies Open - 09 July 05
Good weather brings low scoring Open

For once the sun shone (for most of the time) on the Ladies Open at Reay and the resultant good weather appeared to inspire some low scoring, particularly from our visitors to the course, and none more so than the overall handicap winner, Maureen Barnaville from East Hampstead who returned a superb nett 65 on this her maiden visit. No doubt this will earn her an early handicap reduction when she returns home and an excuse to return next year to defend such a fine win. She was hotly pursued by two Thurso members, Isobel Kirkpatrick and a fine junior golfer, Rebecca Meiklejohn, who both returned nett 68 to take 1st Handicap in Silver and Bronze Sections respectively, with Angela Williamson also from Thurso returning a nett 71 to The Wick ladies were also in the prizes with Val Balfour on 69 and Alison MacKenzie on 71. Thurso's Angela Williamson also returned a nett 71 to feature on the prize list. Durness were represented by Anne MacKenzie and Donna McKinnon with both returning 72's and collecting handicap prizes. As far as Reay ladies were concerned it was Carol Paterson and Lynne Whitelaw who managed to squeeze onto the prize list with nett scores of 70 and 72. Maggie Hill of Royal Dornoch completed the handicap winners with a nett score of 73.

In the scratch section it was once again Eileen Manson of Thurso who defended her trophy returning an excellent score of 77. Her nearest rivals were Marlene Bokas of Brora and Pam Bain from Reay who both returned 82's. In the Bronze Section 1st Scratch was awarded to Maggie Fecitt by the virtue of the better inward half from Brora's Mary Fortune with scores of 93.

As in previous years we are deeply indebted to our Sponsor, D M Geddes & Sons Ltd, for their continued financial support of our Ladies Open and similarly for presenting the prize winners to the successful golfers on the day. We also extend a special thank you to all the ladies who travelled from all Clubs to take part in this event and we look forward to welcoming some of them back for the Intercounty event at the end of August this year, and in other events in the future.
