Summer Cup & Strokeplay Championship - Season 2005 - 2006
Summer Cup Round 12 -
19 July 05
Summer Cup Round 12 goes down in the record books as the wettest ever. Most of the field surrendered to the weather and didn't return a score, however a few worthies battled on and the late starters actually played in sunny pleasant conditions as reflected in the scoring. In Division Two birdies were as rare as hen's teeth and indeed there was only one all day at the 15th where Danny O'Hagan got a nice birdie two. Danny always gets at least one birdie in a round and playing in the worst of the weather didn't disappoint. Playing partner Bill McIntosh had the unusual for him distinction of recording the lowest gross of 90 for a score of 90-16-74 for third place. Two players tied for best nett and once the count back was sorted out Willie Young with 99-26-73 made second and George MacDonald with 93-20-73 got the nod for first place. Scoring in Division Two clearly didn't set the heather on fire but not a great surprise considering the inclement weather. Division One was not much better and birdies were hard to find. Ian Ross making a rare appearance in the Summer Cup slotted home a delightful putt on the 15th for a birdie two. Gavin Sutherland in his second round of the day having played at Torvean in Inverness in the morning in The Junior Masters bagged two birdies at the 10th and the 14th. Cammie Ross playing in the evening also managed a birdie two at the 15th. We had another countback to separate second and third in Division One. With figures of 75-5-70 and an impressive birdie two at the difficult 7th was John O'Brien for third place. Pipping John for second was Don C.Mackay with 77-7-70 doing his best to get back to his preferred handicap of six. Don managed to get himself two 2's on the 5th and also the 15th proving to be the popular birdie hole on the day. In a class of his own and the only man to break par was Alistair Gunn with a superb card showing equal halves of 37. No birdies on the card but great steady scoring and grinding out the pars gave Alistair the best gross score of 74 and a tidy 74-8-66 for a fine win in Summer Cup 12.
