Summer Cup & Strokeplay Championship - Season 2005 - 2006 Summer Cup Round 14 -
02 August 05
The Competition Scratch Score for Summer Cup 14 was a very good 68 and didn't disappoint with some wonderful scores. Hugh Millar won Division two with a great score and indeed the only score under par returning 93-28-65. This was a great effort and nice to see Hugh pick up the sweep money. In second was Alec Anderson in only his third competitive round of the season with a level par score of 83-14-69 and the lowest gross of the Division. In third place was a steady round from Bill McIntosh 86-16-70 just edging out John Disbury 90-20-70 with the better back 9. There were no birdies to report in the Division which was very unusual. In stark contrast were remarkable scoring and a good batch of birdies in Division One. The par three 15th gave up birdie two's for David Gray breaking par with 80-12-68 and Fred Groves with level figures of 75-6-69. John O'Brien not at his best still managed a birdie at the 12th and a pretty decent round of 73-5-68. Donald Mowat was missing out on the birdie party but scoring well with 75-8-67. Steve Efemey had two birdies sinking putts at the 14th and a two at the 18th for 78-11-67. Andy Mackay finding some form since his holiday slipped in a score of 78-12-66 which normally would be a winning score but today not even good enough to get into the sweep money. Lee Parnell playing some sizzling golf shot the lowest gross with a 70 and had two birdies at the hardest hole this year the second and at the 10th which doesn't give up a birdie very often. Lee looking very stylish (Payne Stewart and a bit of Jesper Parnevik?) on the course impressed visitors from Italy and Switzerland who wanted photos with him and he most certainly backed up his style with his excellent play as he then went on to shoot a second 70 in one day at a different course at Thurso in the afternoon in the Caithness Golf Week. Lee's 70-5-65 only got third place losing narrowly on the count back but a great day's golf for the young man. Cammie Ross who has been struggling of late found inspiration from somewhere and got back to what we expect to see from him slotting home birdies at the 6th and the 11th and a very tidy card for 76-11-65. Without doubt the in form man is Peter McCartney finding himself in Division One for the first time after his impressive win in the Senior Open he bagged a birdie two at the short 15th and clearly inspired carded 75-12-63 and another shot off the handicap. Peter has to be looking for single figures before the end of the season. Peter sailed to a very impressive win in Round 14 and is currently contesting three knock out competitions and obviously enjoying Golf at Reay since he moved up from Hartlepool.
