Summer Cup Round 5 - 31 May 05
Shadow cast over Reay's Summer Cup

Sadly there was a sombre mood hanging over the Club on Tuesday as Members took in the very sad news of the sudden death of our much respected Match and Handicap Secretary Donald Campbell. The Reay Seniors Match was cancelled and Saturdays Medal the George Coupar Challenge Shield was postponed as a mark of respect for Donald and to allow Members to attend Donald's Funeral. Donald is very much missed and the contribution he made to the Club in a very quiet and efficient manner will be very difficult to replace.

Round five of the Reay Summer Cup brought out some scorching scores with one man in sensational form to match the excellent weather and superb course conditions. Colin Stewart fresh back from a golfing tour of the USA or was that 'coaching tour' attacked the course with a display of long power driving and big hitting to go round in 75 the best gross score of the day and a nett 62 also the best of the day. Colin had a turbulent front 9 with six dropped shots but settled down with a nice birdie 2 on the 9th. This was clearly the inspiration needed as he played the back 9 in tidy fashion without one single dropped shot to record a level par 35 shots. A clear winner with 75-13-62.

Also in Division two was John Disbury competing with Colin in returning a 62 (22) which was another excellent round but sadly for John he lost out in the count back over the back 9. Andy MacKay another player making a welcome return to form had consistent halves of 39 and plotted his way round to bring home a 78-13-65 a winning score on any other day but he had to settle for third place. Les Patrick had a steady 70 (13) and on 72 we had three players, that man Peter McCartney who is never far away these days and Alan Paul. It was nice to see Danny O'Hagan make a return to competitive golf after a long lay off with injury and a decent score of 72 (18).

Scoring was harder in Division 1 with John O'Brien and Gavin Sutherland bringing in the lowest gross score of 77 each. John had a birdie 2 at the 15th. Bruce MacKay meanwhile was putting together a competent score with a birdie 4 at the 14th to return figures of 80-11-69. Losing out on count back was David Gray who picked up second with 81-12-69 with a steady round. In third place on his own was Cammie Ross using his handicap wisely to score 80-10-70.
