Mens Tournaments - Season 2006-2007

Caithness Golf Week (Reay) - 31 July 06
Danny is good 'In and Out'

A lovely day for golf although the numbers were much lower than last year. Nevertheless there were visitors from as far away as Suffolk and those that played found the course in excellent condition. The CSS was 69 and only 11 birdies were produced with the 1st as the hardest hole and the 9th the easiest par.

The Ladies competition saw Moira McBeath of Thurso take third place with 29 points. Runner up was Angela Williamson also of Thurso on 31 points and the winner was Maggie Fecitt of Reay with a huge 39 points. Carole Cameron made a birdie two at the 7th to tidy up her card.

In Division one there was a birdie at the 16th for Gregor Steven of Wick GC and Peter Jordan of Ufford Park in Suffolk made birdies at the 4th and the 9th. Steve Spargo from Thurso birdied the 6th and there was a pair of birdies for Grant Maxwell at the 3rd and the 17th. In third place was Peter McCartney with a good 35 points. Alistair Bell, Thurso GC, has at last found how to score round Reay and with a nice birdie at the 16th came home with 37 points. A familiar name in first place with a birdie at the 13th is Bruce Mackay who carded an impressive 39 points (3 under par).

M.Sutherland of the Wick Golf Club was first in Division two making birdie at the 15th and a very sound 36 points. Also with 36 points was Bill McIntosh losing out on the countback but getting a pair of birdies at the 8th and the 9th. Bill had gone out in 24 points and had a miserable back nine only collecting 12 points so lost the countback comfortably. In third place was young Blair McIntosh of Thurso GC who knocked it round in 34 points.

The runaway winner of the Reay leg of the Caithness Golf Week was Danny O'Hagan with a superb 40 points with equal halves of 20 points. No birdies but just good course management putting the ball in the right place and making sound pars grinding out a terrific score.
