CH2M Hill Open Texas Scramble - 30 April 06
John leads his new team to a win

Our Sponsors for the day CH2MHill were delighted to get such a good day for weather and this brought out 33 teams to do battle. We were particularly pleased to welcome a team from Texas who had travelled all the way to Reay after finding we had an Open Texas scramble from the Club web site and being from Texas they just had to come and play. Their scoring suggests they found the course a bit tough and they have threatened to be back next year.

Sponsors CH2MHill brought two teams and their personal battle was close with John Lehew leading his trio including Ed McCarthy and Bill Williams to victory with a 67 against the team of Middlemass, Abbott and Williams who made a 68. Once they get to know the Links a bit better they will be more competitive.

The Old Timers of Sandy Chisholm, Alf Mackay and George MacDonald threw in three birdies at the 8th, 9th and 14th for a final total nett 59.6 and showed many a clean pair of heels. Alison Campbell of Thurso took a chance playing with Richard McDonald and Steve Efemey and the team made birdies at the 5th, 13th and 14th and a good score of 59.4 wasn't in the prizes.

Julie Murray had an even more motley crew with her joining Lee Parnell and Murray McGlasson for a nett 59 and a haul of 6 birdies at the 4th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 14th and the 17th. Rebecca Meiklejohn had a tough day at the office carrying her dad and Alf Williamson as most of her tee shots counted.

Thurso Club mates Sandy Stewart, Donald Jack and Steve Spargo shot the lowest scratch score of 62 with a terrific haul of 7 birdies in their 58.8 at the 5th, 6th, 10th, 11th, 13th, 15th and 17th to come home in only 30 shots in a very strong back 9. Matching the 62 gross in their net 58.2 was a Reay team of Evan Sutherland and both Don Mackay's also with seven birdies falling at the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, 13th and the14th.

Third place in the scramble went to a Thurso team making a net 58 were Sid Campbell, T.Mackay and N.Jackson with a birdie at the 2nd and a strong finish with four birdies at the 12th, 13th and the 18th and a great stab at glory. Second place with birdies at the 4th, 6th, 16th and 18th and an eagle at the 14th in a total of 63 gross and 55.6 nett were the Castletown lads Kenny Farmer, Alex Mackay and Club Champion David Dunbar. Out first they posted a very tough target for the field with a great score to aim at.

The winners produced a magnificent 54.6 nett score also from a 62 scratch score. John Nicolson and David J.Mowat two new members to Reay this year combined well with Les Sibbald from the Gullane Club to rack up six birdies at the 4th, 5th, 6th, 11th, 13th and 14th and the icing on the cake was John Nicolson chipping in from his huge drive for an eagle two at the 16th. It was this Eagle that brought victory as they came home in 30 having gone out in 32.
