Club Championship & Monthly Medals - Season 2006-2007
August Medal Medal -
22 July 06
Conditions were fine for the August Medal which attracted a good field and two good winning scores. No surprise to find the 17th the hardest hole and the 9th the easiest par. The CSS for the day stood at 69. In Division Two George Robertson had a good attempt at the medal with birdies at the 5th and the 9th which were both two's but sadly was untidy elsewhere and fell away. Ian Sutherland shot a superb 84-18-66 a winning score but golf is a unique game where honesty is a major feature and Ian was disqualified once he admitted to playing a wrong ball which he realised only when he had finished his round. Only golfers police themselves in this way which makes it a truly great sport. Ian was defending the medal he won last year. Third place went to George MacDonald 92-22-70 with a steady card. John Disbury made a two at the short 5th also with a tidy card 89-21-68 to be the runner up. The Division Two Medal Winner with the lowest gross score of 84 was a popular win for Billy Dunbar shooting 84-18-66 to cruise home comfortably. In Division One son David Dunbar also had the lowest gross of 75 so it was a unique family double but David's 75-5-70 was four shots of the pace. Alistair Gunn made birdie at the 14th as did Colin Stewart. Grant Maxwell looking for that elusive win this year had a pair of birdies at the 9th and the 12th. Andy Mackay had a steady round of 81-12-69 and his par round made 4th place. A nice welcome back for Steven Prince in his first competitive round at Reay since regaining his handicap shooting 80-12-68 with a birdie at the 14th and picks up sweep money for third place at his first attempt. Ian Ritchie was well on track with a late birdie at the 16th Ian came home in 76-9-67 to be runner up. Fresh back from exile Jock Eunson had a stunning round with a 77-11-66 to pip Ian by one shot and take the Division One August Medal.
