Club Championship Qualifier 4 & June Medal - 10 June 06
Evan just gets Div 1 Medal

The June Medal sponsored by Ritchie's a Division of Nuttalls was the last chance to qualify for the Club Championships and some took the opportunity. The Stats showed a CSS of 70 as there was a stiff breeze from the south making conditions tricky which made the 18th the hardest followed by the 10th and the 15th was the easiest par. With a big field as there was a lot at stake it was disappointing to have only 15 birdies but the wind blowing in an unusual direction certainly caused some confusion?

In Division two where Ian Mackintosh was defending the medal Bill McIntosh made a birdie at the treacherous 17th in a very average round. David O'Brien 95-24-71 improving all the time secured third place and Alec Anderson put in yet again another sound performance to card 82-13-69 with a birdie at the 4th to take second place and get into a qualifying position for the Club Championships.

Chris Hobson after some very indifferent form so far this season really changed gear making two birdies which smoked into the cups at the 4th and the 13th. Chris played an immaculate round scoring the lowest gross with 78-13-65 to more than comfortably win the Division Two June Medal. The Left handed Hobson went out in 40 and came home in 38 and his round ensured a place in the final eight in the Seniors Club Championship.

Elsewhere Graeme Dunnett continued his remarkable return from injury with a classy round of 73 which was the best scratch score of the day which included three birdies at the 2nd, 4th and 13th and his outward half of 35 coming home in 38 underlined the quality of his play. In only his second round since his injury Graeme marches straight into Qualifying for the Club Championship and right into contention for Wilson Cup selection.

In Division one Bruce Mackay made birdie at the 14th but unusually for him was suffering a bad day at the office. Grant Maxwell had a two at the 15th and David Mackay also made a two but his was at the 18th. There was a pair of birdies for Steve Efemey in a wee purple patch at the 13th and the 14th and young Gavin Sutherland was in the mood with birdies at the 3rd and the 7th. Gavin Gunn put in a good effort and was rewarded with a birdie at the 16th.

Sandy Chisholm was defending the Medal but sadly slipped out of contention. Nobody made nett par or better in Division One and certainly nobody could compete with the form of Chris Hobson in Division two whose win now puts him into Division one after a wee handicap adjustment. Bill Budding 80-9-71 edged out David Dunbar 76-5-71 on the countback to take third place. Evan Sutherland 80-10-70 and John Nicolson 78-8-70 also had to be separated by the countback and Evan Sutherland got the nod by the tightest of margins to win the Division One June medal as John Nicolson came close to his first trophy at Reay. John had the consolation of a good scratch score which saw him sneak into the Club Championships in his first season at Reay since moving up from Dunbar.
