Mens Tournaments - Season 2006-2007
Links Leisure Challenge - 12 August 06
Conditions were good for the links Leisure Challenge and numbers were good considering there were 20 away playing in the Thurso Open. Scoring was excellent with 14 birdies and one eagle from the field struggling at the second the hardest hole and the fifth was playing as the easiest par. John Nicolson was the man with the eagle at the 14th and he also made light of the second with a birdie there when the rest of the field found it to be the hardest hole. George Prince made a fine birdie two at the 7th often thought of as the hardest hole. Sandy Chisholm made birdie at the 14th as did Grant Coghill but Grant also found the bottom of the cup at the 15th for a birdie two to smarten up the card but by then the damage was already done to his score. Steven Prince on the comeback trail chipped in a birdie at the 11th which is often a very difficult hole to make par on. Grant Maxwell is hovering around a good score and a win is expected shortly however with 36 points and a birdie at the 16th Grant had to settle for a very steady par round. In 5th spot Danny O'Hagan put in a fine performance for 37 points breaking par and notching a birdie at the third. David J.Mowat is another lurking in the wings and a winning score is not far away for David but today his 38 points only made 4th place. Fresh from his Medal win Jock Eunson was looking for back to back wins and very nearly did it, if only? the most famous phrase in golf. Jock cracked in back to back birdies however at the 11th and 12th and made a wonderful 40 points to take third place. First and second were separated by the infamous countback and locking horns were Bill McIntosh and Colin Stewart. Two excellent efforts with Bill making birdie at the tough 17th and Colin two birdies at the 10th and a two at the 15th and both tied on 41 points. Colin Stewart gets the trophy as he had 23 points on the back 9 to Bill's 22 points. End-of-Document |
