Mens Tournaments - Season 2006-2007

Parry Trophy - 29 April 06
Bruce matches Alistair with 3 wins

It was a fine day for golf on the Links with a breeze to contend with. The CSS for the competition was at 69 and the stats showed a total of 26 birdies. The 5 hardest holes were on the front nine making it a tough start and the second was again proved to be the most troublesome. The 6th with a tailwind was the easiest and the 16th gave up four birdies.

In Division two Chris Hobson made a birdie two at the 15th and scoring was very bunched as players jostled for position. Bill McIntosh (88-18-70) made a birdie at the 13th to take third place and this helped him push Steve Lucas (83-13-70) into fourth place. Jerry Abbott a relatively new member wins his first sweep money carding (85-16-69) to nab second place with a par round. Andy Whitelaw made it back from the North Sea after all and made a valiant attempt to defend his trophy with the lowest gross of 81 in the Division. With a birdie at the 10th Andy made top spot in Division two with figures of (81-13-68) but not quite enough to retain the trophy.

In Division one there was 23 birdies and a few hard luck stories. Andy Bain had a tough day at the office but still managed a birdie two at the 9th. The 16th took a bashing and gave up birdies to Bill Budding, Neil McDonald and Joe Wilson. Sandy Chisholm made a nil return but when the pressure was off he found a birdie two at the 18th but too late to make an impact. Donald Mowat had the highlight of a poor round at the 9th as he sank a birdie two. John O'Brien made a two at the 15th and Grant Coghill made two at the 5th to make up for a very ugly start which he could not recover from.

There was the customary brace of birdies for Don Mackay (Snr) with birdies at the 6th and a nice two at the 9th. Fred Groves also made birdie at the 6th. Three birdies were taken at the 14th and these fell to Grant Maxwell Steve Efemey and David Mackay. Grant Maxwell also got a second birdie at the 13th and one feels it's only a matter of time till Grant makes a good score. Cammie Ross was having an excellent day on the greens and he made three birdies with the putts dropping at the 6th, 12th and the 16th.

Ian Ritchie (78-9-69) made a par round and was nudged back by Lee Parnell (74-5-69) who had a birdie at the 3rd on the countback as Lee secured 4th place. Lee was in a three way share of the best scratch score of 74 which he shared with Bruce Mackay and David Dunbar.

Club Champion David Dunbar was in fine form with a sparkling 74 which included a birdie at the 6th as he returned (74-6-68) and had to make do with third place losing out on the countback. Jock Eunson (79-11-68) made a great attempt at the silverware and nearly made it as he settled for second place.

With a share of the lowest gross of 74 and with Alistair Gunn not in the entry Bruce Mackay (74-8-66) once again dominated the field and ran off with another victory to collect his third win of the summer. Bruce thoroughly deserved victory after a great start to his round with birdies at the 1st, 3rd and the 6th and now looks forward to a break in Portugal to blitz the fairways there.
