A new Competition at Reay this year played in the Stableford format. The competition statistics showed a CSS of 68 and the 2nd hole playing as the most difficult and the 5th as the easiest par to make. There were sixteen birdies.
In Division two there was a birdie for George MacDonald at the 14th with scoring difficult. Nevertheless with 35 points Jerry Abbott (14) made third place fresh from a good round in the PTA Open and a reduction in handicap but still playing well enough to make birdie at the 12th. Tied on 36 points was Martin Bain (23) in his first Competition since getting his handicap with Ian Mackintosh (25) and straight onto the winner's podium. After the countback Martin Bain was relegated to second and with a birdie at the 14th Ian Mackintosh was back in a winning position which he is making a nice habit of doing at the moment.
In Division One Don Mackay Snr made birdie at the 5th with a nice two which always smartens the card up. Bruce Mackay and John O'Brien both made birdie at the 6th and John Nicolson was on the birdie trail at the 13th.
No less than four tied for second best points of 37 and these were ranked in order after the countback Evan Sutherland second with a birdie at the 13th, Donald Mowat third with a birdie at the third, Colin Stewart fourth making birdie at the 8th and Gavin Sutherland fifth scoring a birdie at the 11th.
David Mackay better known as 'Snapper' blew the field away to romp home as a very convincing winner with a massive 41 points. David playing off 8 had an incredible run on the back 9 with four birdies in a row at the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th in an amazing purple patch. This has to be some kind of record at Reay.
