Summer Cup & Strokeplay Championship - Season 2006-2007
Summer Cup Round 11 -
11 July 06
There was a strong wind blowing which decimated the field however there were 9 birdies and a CSS of 69 with the 13th very unusually playing the hardest and the easiest was the 6th. There were no birdies in Division 2 and the lowest gross went to Willie Williamson with a 94. Michael Williamson on 103-28-75 came home third but his dad Willie Williamson did one better with 94-20-75 for second which is just the way it should be when father and son play together. Newcomer George Robertson made 97-25-72 and is starting to get established. In Division One there was a brace of birdies for John O'Brien at the 4th and the 11th but not much else happening. Bruce Mackay also had a tough day at the office but managed a birdie at the third. Third was young Gavin Sutherland 76-5-71 with birdies at the 6th and the 14th. Pushing out Gavin on countback was Donald Mowat 80-9-71 to take second place. In a class of his own and way ahead of the field was Lee Parnell with the best gross of 70 and superb figures of 70-4-66 and a haul of three birdies t the 6th, 14th and the 16th to run out an easy winner of round 11. Lee was particularly pleased to have his handicap cut to three. The Summer cup trophies are being dominated by the O'Brien clan. David is 10 shots clear in Division 2 on aggregate with 359 with Willie Williamson in second on 369. Murdo MacDonald is on 371 but there are another 5 rounds to go. In Division one John O'Brien is in a commanding position on 337 and is eight shots ahead of Lee Parnell in second on 345. Snapping at his heels is Bruce Mackay on 346. With 5 rounds to go anything can happen and somebody can come from well behind with a run of good scores. On Saturday it's the July Medal with Bruce Mackay and Danny O'Hagan defending and also there is the Stuart Campbell Open at Thurso. On Sunday it's the Golf Finance Bogey Trophy and the Thurso Gala Open which will be a busy day with the final round of The Open being settled.
