Summer Cup Round 12 - 18 July 06
Colin wins by narrow margin

Round 12 of the Summer Cup saw some wonderful scoring with no less than 9 golfers breaking par thanks to the excellent condition of the course and with greens like car bonnets to putt on. The greens were very slick and gave up 16 birdies with the CSS at 68 the 4th hole played the hardest and the easiest par was the 14th which yielded four birdies.

In Division two Dal Mackay had a super 86-19-67 with a birdie at the third but was only 5th. Andy Bain made birdie at the 18th with a two to smarten up the card and scored the best gross of 84. Ian Mackintosh continued his steady improvement on 92-25-67. Third place went to Willie Williamson with a great 87-21-66 but he was in a hard school as David O'Brien shot a birdie at the 14th for second place with 86-21-65. Getting his season off to a steady start George Robertson has finally got it together with a first place and 89-25-64 is a very good score and earns a two shot reduction in his handicap.

Evan Sutherland was in the thick of the action in Division one and broke par with 78-10-68. Bruce Mackay after signing as Norman Roberts for a few rounds got his act together again and fired in a birdie at the 14th to shoot 77-8-69 and hopefully the start of some good form. John O'Brien also on 74-5-69 has been on a few tough rounds lately but always produces the goods on a Tuesday and didn't disappoint with birdies at the 13th and the 14th. Cammie Ross made birdie at the 13th and Gavin Sutherland had a pair at the 14th and the 15th. Mojo aka Donald Mowat smartened up his card considerably with a pair of two's falling at the 5th and the grandstand 18th for the watching gallery.

Playing good golf was David Gray in a three way tie on nett 67, with a birdie at the 6th and 79-12-67 David settled for third place. Never happy to settle for second was Raymond Taylor who produced a sparkling 70 the lowest gross score in his 70-3-67 including birdies at the 9th, 15th and the 16th. It was the usual tidy round from Raymond. Taking top spot by the narrowest of margins and a birdie at the difficult 17th with 79-12-67 was enough for Colin Stewart finding some good form at the moment.

John O'Brien is still in a very commanding position for the trophy on an aggregate 406, with Bruce NR Mackay in second on 415. Lee Parnell and Cammie Ross are only 4 shots adrift of Bruce. David O'Brien is in a very comfortable lead in Division two on 424 from Willie Williamson in second place on 435. But there is still a lot can happen with four rounds to go. On Saturday it's the July Medal at stake and a good field is expected with fine weather and on Sunday the Golf Finance bogey is up for grabs.
