Summer Cup Round 13 - 25 July 06
Gavin in a purple patch

Summer Cup Round 13 sees the competition running into the final stages with only three rounds left. The CSS was 69 and there were only 11 birdies with the 7th hole playing the hardest and the 9th came out as the easiest par.

New faces were in the frame in Division two with George Robertson continuing steady progress and in the sweep money with 96-22-74 for third place. Willie Williamson made the lowest gross of 88 to take second place with 88-20-68. David J.Mowat had his best round of the season a 93-27-66 to win division two very comfortably.

In Division One Don C.Mackay had a nice pair of birdies at the 8th and the 16th in his round of 84-8-76 but not enough to get into the top places. Three tied on nett 72 and they were Steve Efemey, Grant Maxwell and Raymond Taylor with a birdie at the 14th. Donald Mowat sneaked in a birdie at the 13th in a tie with David Gray and John O'Brien on nett 73.

Bruce Mackay is getting back in the groove after a lean spell with a birdie at the 6th and third place with 79-8-71. Evan Sutherland and young Gavin Sutherland battled it out for pole position. Evan made birdies at the 8th and 9th for 78-10-68 but had to settle for second on the countback. Young Gavin is in a purple patch of form just now hitting the lowest gross of 73 and a haul of three birdies at the 3rd, 12th and 13th in his round of 73-5-68. Gavin has also just made it to the semi final of the Club Championship.

The O'Brien brothers John and David lead the way in the Summer Cup and are trying to make it a family double. On Saturday it's the August Medal and the Wick Seniors Open with the cut at 50 for those who can make it. On Sunday morning there is a 4BBB and the Mixed Open at Reay with late entries accepted starts at midday. There is also an Open up at Durness so a feast of golf over the weekend.
