:: RGC Summer Cup Rnd 6 & Strokeplay 1 - Season 2006-2007

Summer Cup Round 6 & Strokeplay Rnd 1 - 06 June 06
Bruce is in pole position for trophy

The next four rounds of the Summer Cup double up as the Strokeplay Championship and there is a lot to play for. Round 6 saw a CSS of 69 with 19 birdies and very strangely the 6th hole as the hardest followed by the fourth and the third coming in as the easiest par. Raymond Taylor was in the field to defend his Strokeplay scratch title and Evan Sutherland was defending the Keoltag Salver in the handicap section.

There was much huffing and puffing in Division two as nobody seemed able to establish a score apart from Tom Sinclair 86-18-68 with the lowest gross and the best score in the Division. In second place was Ian Sutherland 92-19-73 and in third place Michael Williamson 102-28-74. Ian Mackintosh made a birdie at the 5th and Chris Hobson sent in a sizzling chip from off the green using the pin as a backdrop to make a birdie two at the ninth.

Division one saw more birdies with Colin Stewart breaking par at the 11th. Gavin Sutherland and Ian Ross both birdied the 3rd whilst Cammie Ross made a good birdie at the 14th. Don Mackay Jnr was still on good form on the greens with birdies at the 11th and the 18th for the watching gallery. Not to be left out David Gray made a birdie two at the fifth.

There was a three way tie on 69 for third place and sneaking the countback was Evan Sutherland 79-10-69 with a nice pair of birdies at the 12th and the 16th in defence of his trophy. Raymond Taylor 73-4-69 with a birdie at the 14th was also nicely placed after the first round in the scratch trophy. Colin Paterson 74-5-69 found the greens to his liking as he racked up birdies at the 4th, 6th and the 13th in a very tidy round.

John O'Brien 73-5-68 threw in birdies at the 10th and the 13th in a polished performance to take second place. Bruce Mackay 72-8-64 made the best scratch score to win round six of the summer cup with birdies at the 12th and the 17th and put himself in pole position in the Strokeplay Championship. Bruce was even more delighted to find his handicap back down to 7 after his win.

At present the lead in the Summer cup is tied between Cammie Ross and John O'Brien with David O'Brien and Lee Parnell only a couple of shots away.
