Mens Tournaments - Season 2007-2008
Beinn Ratha Medal - 30 June 07
Conditions were good for golf as the CSS of 68 showed and with 24 birdies the greens were in ideal condition. The 7th was the hardest par to make and as ever the 5th was playing the easiest. Once again Division two golfers were finding life difficult with only one birdie which was a two at the 5th and that fell to Billy Dunbar. Jerry Abbott has found some form after a long lay off due to injury and was third with a score of 86-15-71. Peter McCartney 83-13-70 had a tidy if uneventful round to pick up second. Cruising in a class of his own was Billy Dunbar with a great score of 81-17-64 the lowest gross and a fine birdie two which always looks good on the card. 23 birdies in Division one showed how good the greens were putting as they reach peak condition in time for the Club Championships. Brad Smith having a tough day at the office still managed a birdie at the 10th and Alistair Gunn birdied the 6th. Stuart Greig made a pair of two's with birdies at the 1st and the 18th. It was a great start for Colin Stewart and Stuart Greig as both birdied the first hole, no mean feat, and really antagonised the golfing gods. John O'Brien warming up for the Club Championship final made birdie at the third and his opponent Lee Parnell made birdie at the tough second. John Nicolson had a fine round with a pair of birdies at the 2nd and a two at the 15th. The top players were finding the greens to their liking as Graeme Dunnett 71-2-69 made three birdies at the 8th, 10th, and the 13th in a super back nine. Raymond Taylor also got in on the act with 73-4-69 and birdies at the 4th and the 17th. Gavin Sutherland coming back to the form that saw him win the Club Championship last year with 74-5-69 birdied the fourteenth. Colin Stewart after his great two at the first made 80-11-69 and was the fourth player in the tie with a nett 69. Murray McGlasson with his new set of clubs was in great form again finding a pair of twos in his 78-10-68 with birdies at the 15th and one for the grandstand at the 18th. David Mackay 75-7-68 also had a pair of birdies at the 6th and the 10th. Third place needed the countback to separate Sandy Chisholm and Donald Mowat. With back to back birdies at the 13th and 14th it was Sandy Chisholm 79-12-67 who got the nod over Mojo who shot 75-8-67 which included a very good birdie two at the 7th. Neil McDonald was in sparkling form rolling back the years with a cracking birdie at the 14th capturing the lowest gross of 70 for quality figures of 70-4-66 to take second place. Top man in Division one was Alec Anderson with 74-10-64 to continue a great run of form and pruning his handicap once again. Alec had his hands just about on the trophy however the trophy went to Billy Dunbar who had 81-17-64 and the better back nine making it a great season for Billy who has already won the Ronnie Wallace Open.
