Mens Tournaments - Season 2007-2008

Caithness Medal - 01 September 07
Seventh heaven for winner Grantie

Conditions were not favourable with a stiff breeze but the course was immaculate standing up to the heavy rain during the week and the greens running swiftly. It was a day for rolling the sleeves up and getting stuck in as the CSS fell out to 72 with the course only giving up seven birdies. The hardest par was the 13th into the teeth of the wind with only two of the field making par here and the easiest was as ever the 5th which surrendered two birdies.

Liam Bremner chose the 7th to make a fine birdie two to smarten up his card. Richard McDonald also had a two on his card making birdie at the fifth. Lee Parnell was not up to his usual best but still managed a pair of birdies with a four at the 6th in an outward 36 and a four at the 14th coming home in an untidy 44. Kenny Farmer a winner last week shot 90-15-75 with a birdie two at the 5th to take fourth place.

In third place making a welcome return to the podium was Ian Ritchie 83-9-74 with a very good birdie at the 8th hole which does not cough up many birdies. Donald Mowat 81-9-72 made birdie at the 12th in a workmanlike performance which was good enough for second place. The winner was Grant Maxwell 78-7-71 picking up his seventh piece of silver this season having a great day with the best gross score as well. Grant was out in 39 playing very steadily and back home in 39 with an ugly 7 at the 14th but recovered very well to hang in with dogged determination to comfortably win the trophy.
