Club Championship & Monthly Medals - Season 2007-2008
May Medal & Magners Irish Cider SGU Qualifier -
05 May 07
Conditions were fine as demonstrated by the CSS of 69 which was level par. The front nine was really tough with the degree of difficulty ranked from the hardest was 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 1st and 4th so this was where the damage was done to most cards. There was one eagle and 17 birdies with he par three 5th playing the easiest. Danny O'Hagan picked up a birdie two at the 5th in Division two for fourth spot on 87-16-71. The countback separated Stuart Greig with the lowest gross and George MacDonald who both had tidy par figures. Stuart with 82-13-69 settled for third as George 89-20-69 took second place. Hugh Millar picks up his second win of the season with 93-26-67 to make the May Medal his in Division 2. Hugh was doing some secret practice over in Ballyliffin on the Links and it has paid off with excellent form in the early season. In Division 1 Grant Coghill got what is becoming a customary two at the 5th whilst David Mowat birdied the 6th with a massive drive setting him up for an easy birdie chance which he took comfortably. David Mackay birdied the first a very rare feat at Reay and had a second birdie at the 11th but not enough to challenge the leaders. Bruce Mackay birdied the 14th and Gavin Sutherland made his mark with a pair of birdies at the 6th and the 8th. Evan Sutherland showed how to make birdie at the treacherous 17th. John O'Brien with 73-5-68 maintained great early season form slotting home birdie putts at the 4th and the 13th. With a birdie at the 8th Ian Ritchie had a good round breaking par with 77-9-68 and a sound attempt at the medal. Alistair Gunn was in fine form with 74-7-67 a really good score and potted three birdies at the 5th, 7th and the 15th which was for a total of six shots as all were birdie 2's and that must be some kind of record but it was only good enough for fourth place. As in Division one the countback came into force to separate second and third. It was Lee Parnell 70-4-66 who lost out and came third with the best scratch score of the season, birdies at the 6th and 18th and a wonderful eagle at the 14th and must have thought he had the medal in his grasp. That effort certainly deserved the medal. Cammie Ross 75-9-66 had the better back nine and took second and also must have thought he had a good chance of glory. The winner of the May Medal was Sandy Chisholm 77-12-65 playing flawless golf after an up and down start to the season. A nett 65 from Sandy was a very worthy win. Hugh Millar and Sandy Chisholm have the added distinction as Medal winners of representing Reay Golf Club in the Magners Scottish Golf Championship 2007 Regional Finals at the Inchmarlo Golf Club in Banchory, Aberdeenshire in August. If they qualify they go on to the Final at the MacDonald Cardrona resort in September. End-of-Document |
