Andy wins to boost his confidence

The Parsaver Golf Trophy doubled up as a Club Championship Qualifier and there were a few new claims staked. The CSS was 71 so once again conditions were hard and it required a steely determination to post a score. The course gave up 8 birdies with the opening first hole the hardest only surrendering one par to the field. The easiest par was the 9th if any hole could be called easy in very blustery conditions.

In Division two there was a birdie for Peter McCartney who chipped in from off the green at the 14th after nearly being out of bounds. The lowest gross score of 84 went to Andy Bain. Hugh Millar rarely out of contention these days made third place with 98-26-72. One shot ahead with 90-19-71 was youngster Allyn Sutherland in second place. The best score of 84-14-70 went to Andy Bain making a return to form after some very indifferent scores.

In Division one birdie two's went to Sandy Chisholm at the 15th and Bob Earnshaw at the 5th. Always good for at least one birdie in the round was John O'Brien at the 8th and Don Mackay (Snr) made birdie at the 17th. Three players tied on nett 74 and after the countback was applied Ian Ritchie 83-9-74 found himself in fourth place. With a birdie at the 8th and figures of 78-4-74 Colin Paterson had the lowest gross score and took third. Making birdie at the 16th helped Gavin Sutherland 79-5-74 make second place. Steve Efemey 79-9-70 with a birdie two at the 5th was the top man in the Division but had to go into a count back with Andy Bain from Division 2 to settle the trophy. Andy Bain gets the trophy and a well deserved win and gets into the Club Championship qualifying.
