Mens Tournaments - Season 2007-2008
Corrie Open - 14 July 07
Once again the weather proved very unpleasant and this of course affected the entry which turned out to be healthy despite the rain. Conditions were certainly miserable but being a links course underfoot conditions are always good at Reay with the water draining away quickly. The CSS was 69 and only 5 birdies between thirty golfers showed just how miserable the weather was. The hardest hole was the 4th and the easiest par was as normal the short 5th. It was nice to see Thurso and Wick golfers enter and take on the challenge of the Links. This was disappointing for our Sponsors, Corrie Plumbing & Heating. Richard Thain of Wick made birdie at the 5th but then let conditions get the better of him after a good start. Graeme Reid from Thurso made a good birdie at the 8th but his score also fell away on the back nine. Club Captain Ian Ross certainly took on the conditions and made two birdies with one at the 6th and his second at the 16th but an ugly 11 at the 4th meant he was always playing catch up golf. Colin Stewart made fourth place and his good back nine meant his score of 83-11-72 gave him the edge on countback over George Robertson 92-20-72. John Disbury finding some mid season form with 92-21-71 made third and was on the podium two weeks running after his top spot last week in the Dunnett Cup. The icing on the cake for John was the grandstand birdie two at the 18th. The lowest gross of the day with a creditable 75 belonged to David Dunbar 75-5-70 making his comeback in second place after a lengthy lay off with injury. Peter McCartney with par figures of 82-13-69 was the man who took the title and the Corrie Open Trophy. Peter dug in played par golf and kept the ball in play to win which sounds easy but in the conditions was an excellent effort.
