Conditions were fine for the George Coupar Challenge Shield a bit overcast, a breeze and the odd bit of drizzle. The Competition stats showed the first as the hardest hole only giving up three pars and the 18th sharing the average score of 5. The easiest hole was again the short par three 5th. There were a total of 28 birdies with the 13th and 14th giving up 4 each. The Competition also doubled up as the Belhaven Best Qualifier.
Division two golfers found the going heavy particularly as the day wore on and the breeze freshened. Andy Bain (14) was struggling and found it tough but had the satisfaction of a super birdie two at the 9th. Kenny Farmer (15) also had a two but his was at the fifth and his total of 34 points gave him third place on countback over the youngster Hugh Tunn (21) who is improving rapidly. George Robertson (20) never far from the podium picked up second place with a tidy par round of 36 points. The clear winner in Division two was Alex Mackay (19) with a lovely two under par score of 38 points which was in a three way tie for the trophy and came third so just losing out in the Trophy.
Division one was awash with birdies as young Gavin Sutherland the Club Champion struggling with early season form made two birdies at the 2nd and the 8th. Also with two birdies was the veteran Ian Ritchie at the 8th and the 13th. John Nicolson and Brad Smith made birdie at the 14th, Sandy Chisholm at the 10th, Alistair Gunn defending the trophy at the 12th and Andy Mackay at the 6th.

Making a rare appearance was Andrew Crawford (5) with a fine tally of three birdies at the 2nd, 13th and 14th for his 36 points.
Four shared third spot on 37 points as Gavin Gunn (9) made birdie two at the 9th to smarten up his card. Murray McGlasson (9) making a popular return to the ranks showed he hadn't forgotten his way round with birdies at the 10th and the 16th. Fred Groves (8) was also on 37 points which equates to 1 under par. Emerging from the pack was Wayne Mowat (6) with the best back nine to claim third place courtesy of birdies at the 7th and the 14th.
Three shared the best score of 38 points Alex Mackay from Division two and David McKay and Richard McDonald. Better known to us all as Snapper David Mackay (7) had to settle for second place even with birdies at the 6th and the 13th. The winner of the trophy by the narrowest of margins was Richard McDonald (7) making a birdie two at the 5th to smarten up the card and a birdie at the short par four 13th.
