MANY wait a lifetime for a hole in one... but nine-year-old James Hawes, a primary five pupil from Halkirk school, has just bagged what he hopes will be the first of many.
James, who plays at Reay, has been a golfer for four years. He holed out with a five wood on the toughest hole on the Reay course, the par-three seventh.
The youngster is working hard for his 18-hole handicap and at present has one of the lowest three-hole handicaps (2) at the club.
James is one of the many young golfers who are practising hard for the Junior Open on Sunday. Tee-off times start at 11am with the 18-hole competition, followed by the six and three-hole competitions at noon and 1pm.
